My background and credentials

I was born Sally June Hunt in the 1950’s in Johannesburg. After finishing school at 16 I did a Secretarial course at Birnam Business College. Worked as a secretary for a while but did not enjoy it. Reading Adelle Davis’ books broadened my horizons as to the implications of how foods, vitamins and minerals could actually heal our bodies. This was pioneer thinking at this time.. She was a pioneer in this field at the time.

Moving on I went to London and did a 6 week Cordon Bleu cooking course. The presentation and deliciousness of the foods was awesome. But I kept thinking what about the nutrients in these foods. Foods must be more than just ‘tasting’ good and scrummy.

It was after this course that this English girl went to Stellenbosch University (all studies were in Afrikaans at that time) where in depth learning in the fields of food science, physiology and biochemistry began. After graduating at Stellenbosch with a B.Sc (Dietitics) I worked at Nestle for a few years and then moved on to further my studies at Pretoria University completing my Honours and Diploma (Dietetics) from Pretoria University.

Now some of this learning had to be practically implemented.

Ivy Rautenbach a legend in the 1980’s was pioneering the Orthomolecular Medicine approach to treating illness. This knowledge base of Orthomolecular Medicine came from top scientists like Roger Williams, Abraham Hoffer, Linus Pauling, Carl Pffeiffer etc who were pioneers in the nutritional aspect of rectifying and healing metabolic issues and illness. The Biochemical Individuality was highlighted by Roger William. I was privileged to be able to work with Ivy for a few years. Here began my journey into cellular equilibrium through finely tuned foods and nutritional supplementation with vitamins, minerals, amino acids etc.

For the past 45 years I have been a Dietitian in private practice and have incorporated this integrative approach into treating all aspects of health.

While running my practice I have:

  • Lectured second and third year students of the Physical Education and Exercise Department at Wits University.
  • Given seminars at schools on blood sugar, bulimia, anorexia and ADHD.
  • Given presentations to corporates on stress management and optimum health.
  • Talked to personal trainers at Virgin Active.
  • Participated in a talk show with Metro FM and on 702
  • Run workshops on health using a multifaceted approach.
  • Published articles in Your Family and Performance Pro magazines.
